Group

Healing Change Centre provides Individual, Couples and Group Therapy.

At times, the overwhelming demands of life and work can bring on high levels of sadness, depression, anxiety and anger. This can result in withdrawal and reduced functioning in our personal or professional lives and in our relationships. For some of us, disconnection from important relationships takes place when stress or trauma from past or existing events occurs.

Healing Change Centre helps people to manage and express their emotions and to enhance their relationships so they remain functioning and connected. We believe people are the experts on their lives and the answers lie within them. At Healing Change Centre, our role is to facilitate finding those answers and from there, make different choices that help them create the life they would prefer to live.

We work with people struggling with anger, depression, sadness, anxiety, self-harm, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other issues. To find out more about specific types of therapy and areas we specialize in, please go to the Practice Link.

Frank McGrath Ph.D.

Dr. Frank McGrath a Registered Psychologist has worked for over 40 years with men and women as individuals and couples, young and old, who are experiencing difficulty managing their emotions and remaining connected in their relationships.

Background

Dr. McGrath also has experience working in a number of agencies with male adolescents and adults struggling with high levels of anger, depression or anxiety including PTSD. In the past he has focused on the development and implementation of crisis intervention services and group treatment services for men in crisis – including domestic violence. Recently his practice has focused on working with first responders, medical practitioners, engineers, educators, psychologists, social workers, and other professionals.

Dr. McGrath believes we all have the ability to solve our problems. We may feel ‘stuck’ from past traumas or stresses or overwhelmed by present events. When we experience stress or trauma, it can be difficult to access these solutions because we are weighed down by our emotions. At Healing Change Centre, Dr. McGrath’s role is to facilitate finding solutions during a crisis so that people know ‘they can get through tomorrow’. He also aids his clients in becoming more aware of their emotions and expressing them in a different way, so they have the ability to stay connected.

Keri Murray

Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work (MNTCW)

Keri has worked for over 20 years with people of many walks of life, who experience difficulty with life situations, emotions, actions, or remaining connected in their relationships. Keri has been a registered psychiatric nurse since 1995, and started training in Narrative Therapy in 1998. She has worked with folks (and the important people in their life) in hospitals and community settings, often as part of crisis and mental health services. While having benefited from training in many modalities like CBT, mindfulness, Psychodynamic, and various Systems Therapies, Narrative has provided the worldview and approach of preference particularly when responding to a wide range of problems in people’s lives, including her own.

What is Narrative Therapy?

It is a respectful and non-blaming approach to counselling which centers people as the experts in their own lives. It views problems as separate from people and assumes people have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives.

It explores how we (or others) make and enact meaning in our lives. It is through conversations and reflections that problems can be investigated and then approached in preferred ways.

On-line Counselling?

E-counselling can be a good alternative to getting some assistance in facing life challenges. It can be more convenient and helpful if you don’t know where to start, have other commitments or a situation that makes getting to another place tricky. It is about engaging in a conversation like we might face to face, only online. It is easy, convenient and completely confidential. I will introduce myself, and you will tell me a bit about yourself. You share what you wish to talk about and we can sort out the best way to proceed with the conversation. We can carry out our online conversation for as long as you need and with what frequency and method that feels helpful.
